2016-2017: ATLANTIC CITY
I’ve been to AC more times than I can remember. It’s changed a lot, especially over the past few years as many of the iconic hotels are no longer in operation. I’m not much of a gambler except for the occasional bets on the roulette table, but AC offers more than just the casinos. We usually drive but the bus is also an option. The trip is about 2 1/2 hours from New York City, not including traffic. The list below is from recent trips that my husband and I have taken
🏨 HOTELS 🏨
HARRAH’S RESORT ATLANTIC CITY
Since my husband is a Total Rewards member, we usually stay at Harrah’s these days because they have PetStay rooms. Harrah’s is one of the few hotels located off the main boardwalk strip. The PetStay rooms are located in the Marina Towers and have recently been renovated from carpet to wood floors. Kiwie likes to look around at all the people playing table and slot games as we walk through the casino floor to the front desk to check-in
The hotel’s ELIZABETH ARDEN RED DOOR SPA is pricey but great for massages. There is a lounge area for relaxing as well as a hot tub, steam room, and sauna
🍴 RESTAURANTS 🍴
HARRAH’S WATERFRONT BUFFET
The buffet at Harrah’s offers a standard selection of hot and cold items plus crab legs and shrimp cocktail. There are also various choices for desserts
GUY FIERI’S CHOPHOUSE
This steakhouse is located in BALLY’S HOTEL AND CASINO. For drinks, we ordered a bottle of the Atlos del Plata Malbec from Mendoza, Argentina. As an appetizer, we ordered Bloody Mary Jumbo Shrimp, which is colossal shrimp with Bloody Mary cocktail sauce. As an entrée, we got the Sonoma Dry-Rubbed Porterhouse, which is a 22oz Butcher’s cut chop with signature Sonoma rub and confit garlic butter. As a side, we ordered Guy’s Potato Rig, which is a salt-crusted baker potato that’s sea-salt brined for 24 hours and roasted crispy, accompanied with ranch sour cream, cheddar cheese, roasted green chilies, butter, and green onion relish. Yum !
🏃 THINGS TO DO 🏃
Harrah’s has an indoor pool complete with real palm trees. The temperature is 82 degrees in the dome and the water is warm all year round. There is also an outdoor deck for sunbathing. At night, the pool turns into a club scene for its After Dark parties, although I’ve never been inclined to go. Once after his concert at the pool stage, Ja Rule sat at a table across from us in the casino playing baccarat. Monkey ! Holla !
CIRQUE DU SOLEIL OVO
My husband and I went to see the Cirque du Soleil show, OVO, in June 2016 at BOARDWALK HALL. OVO means egg in Portuguese. The show featured a colorful community of insect life with ladybugs, flies, ants, spiders, crickets, dragonflies, etc. I really hate bugs but the costumes were great. There were amazing circus performances, including contortionists, high flying rope acts, uni-cyclists, and tightrope walkers, along with live musicians and clowns. There were even red ants dancing on giant Kiwi(e)s !
P¡NK is my all-time favorite singer and I was thrilled when my husband got us tickets to see her perform in July 2017 as part of the Atlantic City BeachFest Concert Series. There were certain rules we had to abide by including No Animals, so Kiwie couldn’t join. We should have dressed her up as a small horse !
We had Gold tickets which put us right in the front section of the beach near the stage. We entered around 5PM when doors opened. We brought a bed sheet to sit on in the sand and a couple of bottles of water
The lines for drinks were super long so we only got one round of beer and wine. The opening act DJ went on first at 6PM and then a band, Dreamcar, performed at 7:30PM
P¡nk came on around 8:45PM and performed many of her hits from her current and past albums, including Get The Party Started, Sober, Try, plus a mash-up of Funhouse mixed with a cover of No Doubt’s Just A GirlOther songs included Just Give Me A Reason, U + UR Hand, Just Like a Pill, Who Knew, Just Like Fire, Blow Me (remixed to a Caribbean beat), Raise Your Glass, etc etc !
P¡nk ended the show with her amazing aerial acrobatics, gliding across the sky while singing So What. It looked like so much fun. She seems like such a down-to-earth person. I can’t wait to see her again next year at Madison Square Garden !
